KIDS’ ROOM STORAGE
Plan the storage. Then pick the finish.
A child’s wardrobe has to accommodate more than clothes: school bags, bedding, toys and belongings that change as they grow. Start with what needs a home, then decide how the doors and drawers will work in the room.

Give everyday items a defined place
List school clothes, weekend clothes, hanging garments and folded items separately. Decide which belongings the child will put away and which an adult will manage. Ask the designer to show these groups on an internal elevation, rather than approving only the front view.
Separate daily storage from occasional storage
Spare bedding, luggage and outgrown clothes need a different place from the next day’s uniform. Plan adult-managed storage for occasional items and discuss everyday reach during the design review. Do not assume a compartment is accessible simply because it appears low in a photograph.
Check the doors with the room furnished
Mark the bed, study chair and wardrobe on a measured plan. Show doors open and drawers pulled out. Check whether someone can reach clothes while another person is using the desk. Compare hinged and sliding access before choosing the frontage.
Leave room for changing routines
Ask whether shelves and rails can be repositioned and what that adjustment involves. A toy-storage compartment today may need to hold books or sports equipment later. Record the agreed fittings and adjustment options in the quote; the photograph does not certify any particular hardware or material.
Bring this brief to your consultation
- A measured room sketch with door and window positions.
- A list of clothes, bags, bedding and other items to store.
- Which items need daily access and who will access them.
- Furniture you are keeping, including the bed and desk.
- Questions about fixing, stability, handles and appropriate access for your household.
Ask for an internal layout, a door-opening plan and an itemised specification before ordering. This is a planning guide, not a child-safety assessment or construction drawing.
